Information We Collect
When you create an account, we collect your email address and, optionally, a mobile phone number for SMS alerts. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
When you set up a campsite alert, we store your selected campground, date range, and notification preferences.
How We Use Your Information
We use your email and phone number solely to deliver campsite availability notifications you have explicitly requested. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Payment Information
Paid subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We never store your full credit card number. Stripe’s privacy practices are governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy.
Cookies and Analytics
We use cookies to keep you logged in and to remember your preferences. We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-first analytics tool that does not use cookies and does not collect personal data.
Data Retention
We retain your account and alert data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time by contacting support. Alert history is retained for 12 months after an alert expires.
Your Rights
You may request a copy of your data, correction of inaccurate data, or deletion of your account by emailing support@camping-alert.com. We will respond within 30 days.
Security
We use industry-standard encryption (TLS) for all data in transit and encrypt sensitive data at rest. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plain text.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate Camping Alert:
- Recreation.gov API — campsite availability data
- Twilio — SMS delivery
- Mailgun — email delivery
- AWS — hosting and database
- Stripe — payment processing
- Google — optional OAuth sign-in
Children’s Privacy
Camping Alert is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify registered users by email of material changes. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
