What to Expect
Jenny Lake sits directly beneath the Tetons, at the trailhead for hikes to Hidden Falls, Inspiration Point, and Cascade Canyon. It's small — tents only, no RVs — and that combination of scenery, trail access, and limited capacity makes it Grand Teton's hardest booking by a wide margin.
Colter Bay, on Jackson Lake's north shore, is the park's largest developed area, with a standard campground, an RV park, and a tent village all in one place — more capacity generally means better odds than Jenny Lake, even in peak season. Signal Mountain, further south on Jackson Lake, offers lake views with easier booking odds than Jenny Lake. Gros Ventre, in the park's southeast corner near Kelly, tends to be the quietest and least competitive of the bunch. Lizard Creek and Headwaters Campground at Flagg Ranch sit toward the park's north end, closer to Yellowstone, and see less pressure than the central campgrounds.
If Jenny Lake is the goal, set an alert well ahead of your trip — it's genuinely one of the hardest sites in the National Park System to land. If lake access and Teton views matter more than a specific trailhead, Colter Bay or Signal Mountain deliver most of the experience with much better odds.
