Moraine Park is Rocky Mountain National Park's largest and most popular campground, close enough to Estes Park for easy supply runs and centrally located for trailheads on the park's east side. Glacier Basin and Aspenglen offer similar east-side access with somewhat better odds, while Longs Peak Campground — small, tents-only, and positioned at the trailhead for the park's signature 14er — draws a very specific, very determined crowd of climbers.

What to Expect
Moraine Park sits in a broad glacial valley on the park's east side, a short drive from Estes Park and central to trailheads leading into the park's high country. Its size works in your favor — more sites generally means more cancellation activity to catch — but it's also the park's default choice for most visitors, which keeps demand high.
Glacier Basin, nearby, serves as the shuttle hub for Bear Lake Road in peak season, useful if you want to avoid parking headaches at the park's most popular trailheads. Aspenglen sits near the Fall River entrance on the park's north side, generally quieter than Moraine Park. Longs Peak Campground is a category of its own: small, walk-in, tents-only, and positioned specifically for climbers attempting Longs Peak's summit — a very different trip than a typical RMNP camping visit. Timber Creek, on the park's west side near Grand Lake, is the only campground on that side of the Continental Divide and tends to see less pressure than the east-side sites.
If you're centering your trip on Bear Lake Road hiking, Moraine Park or Glacier Basin make the most sense. If you're headed to the quieter west side, Timber Creek is worth a look even though it means a longer drive over Trail Ridge Road.
